Winter Teams

Recap on 2018-2019

Another year of Winter Teams has come to an end for us! It is always bitter sweet because we say good bye to some of our 18’s who have been in the program for years, and we are also excited to see new faces participating in the program as well! This past year we had 3 teams (14U/16U/18U) that headed down to the States and participated in 4 tournaments each. Everyone definitely learned a lot, and we all had our eyes opened up to the level of talent there is down in these tournaments. All in all, the teams have definitely been improving, and we are definitely giving those USA Teams all they can handle. Seeing the level of talent at these tournaments was maybe a shock to some of our players and parents, but that is what this program is all about. Our goal is to bridge that gap, and improve the skill level in our Canadian Fastpitch players. Although we are a Saskatchewan based program, we do encourage players from out of Province to join the 222’s Fastpitch Family. We had several out of Province players that were part of our Winter Teams last year.

2019-2020 Tryout Camp – Saskatoon SK (Gordie Howe Sports Complex)

222’s Fastpitch is very excited for the upcoming Travel Teams’ Tryout Camp! There are some new and exciting plans for the upcoming Winter Season, starting  with the Tryout Camp, which will be held indoors at the new Gordie Howe Sports Complex.  Weather will not be a concern for the testing, and scrimmages in this state of the art facility.

Dates for the tryout camp are Saturday August 24th, and Sunday August 25th..

Athletes will check in Saturday morning by age group for uniform fitting, skill testing and drill observation.  On Sunday athletes will be placed on teams for a series of controlled scrimmages.  The selection and athlete notification process will be completed by August 31st, 2019. Rosters of 13 players will be announced for all tournaments.

*All athletes will test and evaluate against athletes of the same birth year.*

222’s Fastpitch is also changing the tournament schedule for the 2019/2020 Winter Season to create opportunities for more athletes to participate with the travel teams. *** These changes are possible due to the tournaments in the US having a Dec 31st deadline for age grouping***

222’s understands by expanding the tournament schedule that athletes making the teams will likely not commit to all of the dates.  The coaching staff will again offer tournaments to athletes and they will have the choice to accept or decline the tournaments offered.  A complete list of tournament dates will be posted soon.

Common Questions:

How old does my daughter have to be to try out? Our youngest players will have a birth year of 2007 / Our oldest players will have a birth year of 2001.

Is there a cost to try out? There will be a $165.00 (plus GST tax) Fee to attend the tryout Camp.

My daughter did not play on a 222’s Fastpitch Team last year, does she have as good a chance of making a team as someone who played last year? Yes. Although we definitely do not want to see any of our last year’s players go, in order to be fair, each team will be selected from scratch, based on the same criteria as last year. No one holds a spot because they are a former team member.

If my daughter makes one of the Winter Teams, does she have to attend all the tournaments? No. If selected, we do ask that they definitely commit to two tournaments. When the team is selected, the plan is to have 13 players travel to each event. There will NOT be an alternate list of players this year. Instead, rosters of 13 players will be created for each tournament.

How many tournaments will each team be attending in 2019-2020? Tournaments not yet confirmed. A complete list of tournaments will be posted by May 1st, 2019.
