Winter Teams

Recap on 2017-2018

With 4 years under our belt, we have found that we definitely have a spot for Winter Tournament Teams in our Program. Our 222’s Fastpitch Teams competed in three divisions this past winter; 14U / 16U / 18U. We had a great group of players, coaches and parents! In 2017-2018 we traveled to Orlando Florida (Oct 2017), San Diego, California (Dec 2017), Las Vegas, Nevada (Feb 2018) and Atlanta, Georgia (Mar 2018). Everyone definitely learned a lot, and we all had our eyes opened up to the level of talent there is down in these tournaments. All in all, the teams have definitely been improving, and we are definitely giving those USA Teams all they can handle. Seeing the level of talent at these tournaments was maybe a shock to some of our players and parents, but that is what this program is all about. Our goal is to bridge that gap, and improve the skill level in our Canadian Fastpitch players. Although we are a Saskatchewan based program, we do encourage players from out of Province to join the 222’s Fastpitch Family. We had several out of Province players that were part of our Winter Teams last year.

2018 – 2019 Tryout Camp

222’s Fastpitch will hold ONE tryout camp this year:

Saskatoon, SK. – August 24th and 26th, 2018.

In order to tryout for one of our Winter Teams, you need to attend this tryout weekend. The tryout camp will consist of skills testing, and then the players will be broken up into teams in order for the coaches to watch the players compete.

Ages / Teams:

We will have Teams in the 14U – 16U – 18U Categories this year. We will give you just a quick explanation to why you see “14U” rather than “U14” (like we are used to seeing it here in Canada). This is not a typo. The tournaments that we are attending have been down in the U.S. and they categorize their Minor Fastball Teams differently than we do here in Canada. In short, because all the tournaments we will be attending are down in the States, we categorize our 222’s Fastpitch Teams the same way, so we can be competing against players the same ages.

Common Questions:

How old does my daughter have to be to try out? 14U (2006 – 2004), 16U (2003 – 2002), 18U (2001 – 2000).

Is there a cost to try out? There will be a $150.00 (plus GST tax) Fee to attend the tryout Camp.

How many Teams in each age Category will you have, and how will you divide them? We will be having one 14U team, one 16U Team and one 18U Team.

My daughter did not play on a 222’s Fastpitch Team last year, does she have as good a chance of making a team as someone who played last year? Yes. Although we definitely do not want to see any of our last year’s players go, in order to be fair, each team will be selected from scratch, based on the same criteria as last year. No one holds a spot because they are a former team member.

How many tournaments will each team be attending in 2018-2019?

14U Team:

  1. Fort Lauderdale, FL – Oct 18 – 21, 2018
  2. San Diego, CA – Nov 29 – Dec 2, 2018
  3. Temecula, CA – Feb 14 – 18, 2019
  4. Orange County, CA – Mar 14 – 17, 2019

16U Team:

  1. West Covina, CA – Oct 11 – 14, 2018
  2. San Diego, CA – Nov 29 – Dec 2, 2018
  3. Fort Lauderdale, FL – Jan 3 – 6, 2019
  4. Las Vegas, NV – Feb 7 – 10, 2019

18U Team:

  1. Orlando, FL – Orlando 25 – 28, 2018
  2. San Diego, CA – Nov 29 – Dec 2, 2018
  3. Las Vegas, NV – Feb 7 – 10, 2019
  4. Atlanta, GA – Mar 21 – 24, 2019

If my daughter makes one of the Winter Teams, does she have to attend all four tournaments? No. If selected, we do ask that they definitely commit to two tournaments. When the team is selected, the plan is to have 14 players travel to each event. There will NOT be an alternate list of players this year. Instead, we will create one team (could be of approx 20 players) that will make up all for travel weekends.
