222’s Fastpitch Shootout Skill Competition
There will be four components to the Skills Competition. Each team will be scored on their player’s performance in each event. In each division, the teams will be scored by giving the top team 10 points for winning the event. Each team will be scored and ranked based on their finish in the skill event. The team with the most points at the end of the competition will be declared the winner. If that does not settle the tie then team that finished higher in the infield “Around the Horn” relay will be declared the winner.
Events
Home Run Contest: One Player from each team will be given 7 Swings from home plate. Cones will be placed in the outfield at different distances and points are awarded for the distance the ball is hit in the air. The ball must be a fair ball. The player with the most points after 7 swings is the winner. In case of a tie the player (s) tied will go to sudden victory by getting one more swing each until a winner is declared. The winning team will get 10 points and the remaining tied teams will get 9 points each. The participants will supply their own coach pitcher.
Base Running Relay: Two players from each team will participate in the relay. The first runner will start at home plate and run around the bases. The second runner will also run around the bases but will not start until the first runner has crossed home plate. The total combined time will be used to rank the team for points in this event. In the case of a tie, the tied teams will select one player to run from 2nd base to home plate and the fastest time will be declared the winner. The winning team will receive 10 points and the remaining tied teams will receive 9 points each.
Outfield Cut Off Relay: Four players from each team will participate in this throwing relay. The ball will start at the centre field fence. Cones will be placed on in the outfield and infield (approx. 50 feet apart) where the other participants must stand to receive the throw from their team mate. The ball will be relayed from the centre field fence to home plate between four players. Each throw must be caught and relayed to the next person. If the ball is over thrown or missed by the player receiving the throw, the receiving player must chase down the ball, return to their assigned cone and complete the throw to the next player in the relay. The time starts when the first player pick up the ball at the fence and stops when the player at home plate has the ball in hand while standing on the plate. In the case of a tie the tied teams will play off in a sudden victory. The wining team will receive 10 points, remaining tied team receive 9 points.
Infield “Around the Horn” Relay: Five players will line up at the infield positions. The ball will start at home plate and will be throw in a pattern around the infield. The time starts on a “GO” command and stops when the catcher has the ball in hand while standing on home plate. If the ball is overthrown the receiving player must chase the ball down and return to position to continue the relay. Cones will be placed at each position and the players must receive the ball at or behind the cone. They are allowed to step past the cone to throw to the next player. The pattern will be as follows: Home to 3rd to 2nd to SS to 1st to Home. In the case of a tie the tied teams will complete the relay again until a winning is determined. The winning team will receive 10 points the remaining tied teams will receive 9 points.
The team that accumulates the overall points from the competition will receive a team prize.
